Several major transport interchanges and overpasses are planned for completion in Minsk to form a full third transport ring. Minsk City Executive Committee Chairman Uladzimir Kukharau said this in an interview with Belarus 1 television channel.
According to him, the two existing transport rings and the Minsk Ring Road can no longer handle traffic flows, especially during peak hours. New interchanges will primarily be built at points where the third ring crosses railway lines or waterways. Construction is currently underway on a connection between Kalesnikava Street and Timiryazev Street. It is scheduled for completion in 2026.
In addition, three more overpasses are planned to be built in the coming years — at the intersection of Chyurlenis Street and Karzhaneuskaga Street, Siarou Street and Shpileuskaga Street, as well as across the Svislach River, connecting Loshytsa and Serabryanka.
“We plan to complete this project within three years. It will significantly improve the city’s transport infrastructure. In addition, there is a serious problem — heavy trucks. The Belarusian leader supported the Minsk City Executive Committee’s proposal to build a road from Kalyadzichy, the largest industrial center, to the second ring road. In 2027, we will complete construction of an overpass that will provide an exit from the Shabany industrial center to the ring road via Sialitskaga Street, allowing vehicles to travel to the second ring road rather than the first,” the Minsk City Executive Committee chairman said.
At the same time, the authorities plan to restrict heavy truck traffic on the Minsk Ring Road and redirect the flows to the second ring road.
Minsk will also continue expanding its paid parking network. The city currently has more than 9,000 paid parking spaces, and the number is planned to reach 10,000 by the end of 2026.
In addition, the city authorities plan to equip parking lots and car parks with charging stations.
“We will equip car parks and parking areas with charging devices. There are more than 30,000 electric vehicles in the city, and by the end of 2030 their number could exceed 100,000. We must prepare the infrastructure for this,” the Minsk City Executive Committee chairman stressed.
Kukharau also said that construction of Minsk’s third metro line is proceeding according to schedule and called reports of a two-year delay fake.
The second section of the third line is scheduled for completion in 2028. It will run from Bangalore Square to Melnikaite Street and include three stations.
“We have purchased a second tunnel boring machine, which is already operating underground. This significantly speeds up the process. We can work on tunnel construction in parallel. We have also simplified the relocation of utility networks. This will now produce a significant acceleration in the pace of work. In 2027, we plan to begin construction of the fourth, circular metro line, which will significantly improve transport logistics within the metro system and allow us to carry significantly more passengers,” he said.
