Joint Committee and Visa-Free Travel for Diplomats: Belarus and Ghana Sign Package of Agreements

Belarus and Ghana signed a package of bilateral documents following the visit of the African country’s president to Minsk. The agreements cover various areas of cooperation.

The following documents were signed today:

  • an agreement establishing a Joint Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation;
  • an agreement on visa-free travel for holders of diplomatic and service passports;
  • a memorandum of understanding in the field of agriculture;
  • an agreement on cooperation between the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Speaking at the conclusion of the talks, Aliaksandr Lukashenka said that the two countries were opening a new chapter in their cooperation.

“Today we are opening a new chapter in our cooperation, now in a bilateral format. The negotiations that have taken place confirmed that there is strong potential for the future in trade and economic relations, in strengthening food security, and in humanitarian areas such as education and healthcare. The president and I are committed to dynamically developing cooperation in all of these areas, with the economy as our top priority,” he said.

According to Lukashenka, the two sides are also discussing the opening of embassies.

“During the negotiations, the president raised the issue of opening embassies in our respective countries. We support such an initiative, but we would very much like our joint intergovernmental committee to begin its work first, so that the embassies can contribute to the further development of this cooperation,” he said.
