Construction Company Director Sentenced to 2.5 Years of Restricted Freedom Over Worker’s Death

The Valozhyn District Court found a 46-year-old resident of Valozhyn guilty of violating construction safety regulations, resulting in the death of a person through negligence.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the case concerned the death of a worker in June 2025. During the dismantling of a structure, the worker was crushed by a reinforced concrete slab. He sustained multiple injuries and died at the scene.

The defendant was the director of the company that carried out the work. According to the prosecution, he allowed an individual without the required qualifications to participate in the project. The work was conducted without the necessary organisational and technical documentation. No local occupational safety regulation had been developed setting out safe methods and procedures for dismantling and demolishing the structure. Workers were assigned to high-risk tasks without the required work permits. Continuous supervision and management of the work at the site were not provided.

During the trial, the defendant partially admitted guilt.

He was sentenced to two years and six months of restricted freedom without placement in an open-type correctional institution. He was also barred for five years from holding positions related to ensuring workplace safety and occupational health in the construction sector. In addition, the court ordered him to pay 10,000 Belarusian rubles to the victim’s sister as compensation for moral damages.
