In the Homiel Region, Officials Explained How Russian Soldiers Are Being Treated

In the Homiel region, officials have explained how Russian soldiers are being treated after ending up in Belarus as a result of a prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia that took place on February 5. The exchange was conducted in a 157-for-157 format. According to Russia’s Ministry of Defense, Russian servicemen are receiving medical and psychological assistance in Belarus and will then be sent to Russia.

On February 6, the Belarus 1 television channel aired a report claiming that the Russian soldiers had been handed over by the Ukrainian side “as part of a reciprocal gesture” in response to the “pardon” of 31 Ukrainian citizens who returned from Belarusian prisons in November last year.

“Some of them were immediately placed in a medical facility in the Homiel region. On the direct instruction of the president, all conditions have been created here for their treatment, rapid recovery, and return home,” state television said.

An unnamed employee of the medical facility said that the condition of all patients is currently stable.

“A group of servicemen of the Russian Federation was admitted to our medical facility. The patients’ condition was assessed as severe. One patient was in critical condition upon admission. Diagnostics revealed intra-abdominal bleeding with a two-stage rupture of the spleen. Emergency surgery was performed for urgent indications, and the necessary medical care was provided. At present, the patient’s condition is severe but stable, with positive dynamics,” he said.

“A number of patients have multiple foreign bodies in various parts of the body that were not surgically removed and already have complications, including neuropathies and osteomyelitis. One patient suffered an acute cerebrovascular accident. All patients are receiving a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic measures. At present, the condition of all patients is stable,” the employee added.
