Human Bones Found During Excavation Work in Brest Region

Human skeletal remains were discovered during excavation work in the Pinsk and Stolin districts of the Brest region, with the burial sites dating back more than 80 years, the State Forensic Examination Committee reported.

In the Pinsk district, a resident digging a trench for an electrical cable on his property found bones and informed law enforcement authorities. An examination determined that the remains belonged to at least five people.

In the Stolin district, bones were found by workers while installing concrete sewer rings. According to experts, the remains belonged to three different individuals.

In both cases, the burials were found to be more than 80 years old, indicating that they date back to the period of World War II, the committee said.

According to experts, such discoveries most often occur during the spring and autumn seasons, when construction, repair, agricultural and road works are actively carried out. Excavation activities such as digging trenches and foundation pits or plowing fields frequently uncover burial sites hidden underground.
