Hi-Tech Park Supervisory Board Discusses Crypto Regulation After Lukashenko’s Threats

On October 27, the Supervisory Board of the Belarus Hi-Tech Park (HTP) held a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Alexander Turchin. One of the key topics discussed was cryptocurrency regulation.

Turchin called for a compromise that would allow crypto companies to develop while protecting the state’s economic interests.

“Some of the issues brought to today’s meeting on the use of crypto assets involve complex technological and financial aspects of token operations. Our task is to understand these matters and find a balanced solution that ensures both the development of crypto companies and the economic interests of the state,” the prime minister said.

Head of the HTP Supervisory Board Secretariat Anna Ryabova said new rules were being introduced in the field of cryptocurrencies.

“We are introducing new regulations governing the activities of crypto residents, particularly those organizing ICOs, as well as certain requirements for the technological platforms they use,” Ryabova said.

The meeting also addressed the registration of new HTP residents, support for education in the IT sector, and various organizational issues.

Turchin noted that more than 100 companies had joined the HTP this year, with another 40 applications under review.

Earlier, at a meeting in early September, Alexander Lukashenko demanded order in the cryptocurrency sector and threatened to “hang or shoot” those responsible for a crypto exchange within the HTP following a scandal involving a Kazakh company.
