Gutenberg Publisher Designated an “Extremist Formation”

The publishing house Gutenberg Publisher has been designated an “extremist formation.” The decision by the State Security Committee is dated February 16. Today, information about it was added to the list maintained by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In connection with the designation, the names of Valentina Andreeva and Ilya Andreev are mentioned. The list includes Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Threads, Telegram, and the publisher’s website.

“The European Belarusian publishing house Gutenberg Publisher has its office in Krakow. Belarusians who were forced to leave their homeland work here. We maintain personal contacts with Belarusians across the country and involve them in work aimed at providing material support and maintaining a unified intellectual space,” the publisher’s website says.

Over the weekend, it became known that mass detentions of publishers and book distributors had taken place. Information also emerged that the publishing house Tekhnalogiya had suspended its operations.

Belarusian authorities use accusations of extremism to fight political opponents and dissent more broadly.
