Green Network Names Best Environmental Reporting by Belarusian Journalists

Green Network has announced the winners of the Green Award, an initiative supporting Belarusian journalists who professionally cover environmental issues.

A professional jury comprising journalists, media managers and environmental experts selected four winners across different categories. The Green Award is being presented for the second consecutive year. This year’s focus was on reporting about climate change, energy security, biodiversity conservation and the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster.

In the category “40 Years Since the Chornobyl Nuclear Disaster”, the winning entry was the video report “Chornobyl: The Disaster They Want to Hide” by Radyyo Svaboda journalist Yuliya Kotskaya.

In the category “Energy Security and Energy Independence of Belarus”, the top award went to the analytical article by Hrodna.life journalist Hanna Uladzimirava, titled “Will Belarus Have Free Electricity From the New Nuclear Power Plant?”.

In the category “Climate Change and Climate Adaptation”, the winner was the report by Ex-press.live journalist Anastasiya Babrouskaya, titled “Cities Turn Into Frying Pans During Heatwaves: How Barysau and Zhodzina Are Facing a New Climate Reality”.

In the category “Biodiversity Conservation”, the jury recognised the article by BG.media journalist Viktorya Skabichevskaya, titled “Bats in Belarusian Cities: Why They Die and How Not to Harm Them in Winter”.

“Today, environmental journalism is not merely about documenting problems; it is a powerful tool for shaping public awareness. Every high-quality article, video or podcast about climate and biodiversity is a step toward helping society recognise global challenges in everyday life.

The winners of the Green Award have demonstrated that even in difficult times, Belarusian authors are capable of producing profound and important content that inspires change and helps preserve our country for future generations,” said Green Network coordinator and jury member Iryna Sukhiy.
