Belarus may allow foreign citizens to serve under contract in the Armed Forces and Internal Troops. The provision is included in a draft law “On Amendments to Laws Concerning Military Service.”
The bill was discussed today at a meeting of the expert council of the Council of the Republic. The draft law was presented by Chief of the General Staff and First Deputy Defense Minister Paval Muraveika.
“The draft law is aimed at strengthening national security and establishes the legal grounds for foreign citizens to perform military service under contract in the Armed Forces and the Internal Troops of the Interior Ministry,” the Council of the Republic reported.
Current legislation allows contract military service only for citizens of Belarus.
