The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has revised restrictions imposed since 2023 on Belarusian and Russian athletes, teams and officials. The decision by the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) was adopted on Aug. 3 and took effect.
Under the revised rules, Belarusian and Russian drivers, national teams, individual participants and officials can now participate without restrictions in international and zonal competitions. In particular, the requirement to sign a commitment to neutrality has been abolished. The use of Belarusian and Russian state symbols at international and zonal competitions is permitted. This includes flags, colors and other state symbols on uniforms, equipment and cars, as well as the playing of their national anthems.
At the same time, international and zonal competitions still cannot be held in Belarus and Russia. The ban remains in effect until further notice.
The FIA emphasized that the WMSC decision is binding on all participants and organizations associated with the federation. The participation of Belarusian and Russian athletes, participants and officials in a particular country must still comply with applicable international, national and local laws.
The federation also said it would continue to monitor developments surrounding the Russia-Ukraine war and reserves the right to introduce additional measures in the future, including to comply with existing sanctions regimes.
