Belarusian citizens living in Bulgaria who are unable to obtain a new Belarusian passport will be able to receive a temporary foreigner’s document. It will be issued to Belarusians who have a permanent or long-term residence permit in Bulgaria.
“According to a letter from the head of the Migration Directorate, people who have a permanent or long-term residence permit (in accordance with EU Council Directive 2003/109/EC) will be able to obtain a temporary foreigner’s document if they wish.
Due to the lack of a full-fledged equivalent of a foreigner’s passport in the Republic of Bulgaria, this document will unfortunately have very limited functionality, but it may become an important step forward and help temporarily resolve the problems (at least for children), while a special group at Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry will continue working on finding a more convenient solution in the future,” the Belarusian People’s Embassy in Bulgaria reports.
A solution is being sought to address the problem for Belarusians with temporary residence permits.
According to the people’s embassy, during a future session of Bulgaria’s National Assembly, a bill aimed at improving conditions for the legalization of Belarusians in Bulgaria is expected to be introduced.
