EDB Sees Signs of Sustainable Decline in Inflation in Belarus

Analysts at the Eurasian Development Bank see signs of a sustainable decline in inflation in Belarus. This is stated in the bank’s weekly review of the economies of member states.

Last week, Belstat reported that annual inflation in March stood at 5.4%, compared with 5.6% in February.

“The main contribution came from slower growth in food prices, which eased to 7.8% year-on-year from 8.7% year-on-year a month earlier. This was largely due to more moderate growth in prices for seasonal vegetables and fruit — 3.5% year-on-year after 5.6% year-on-year in February. At the same time, as expected, inflation in services accelerated to 6% year-on-year from 5.4% year-on-year due to the postponement of housing and utility tariff increases from January to March”, the review said.

The EDB noted that the pace of price growth has slowed for the fourth consecutive month. At the same time, the deceleration of core inflation indicates the “sustainability of disinflationary processes”.

“We expect price growth in 2026 to remain within the target range of no more than 7%”, the EDB concluded.
