The growth of lending will continue to support the expansion of domestic demand in Belarus, according to the weekly review of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) member states’ economies.
The bank’s analysts noted that in September, the issuance of loans in Belarusian rubles increased by 1.2% compared to the previous month. The pace of lending growth in the national currency accelerated after a 0.3% rise in August.
“The key factor was an increase in the corporate loan portfolio (+1.3% month-on-month) in September after a decline (-0.2% month-on-month) in August. The expansion was driven by state-owned enterprises (+2.6% month-on-month), while private-sector loan debt continued to decrease (-0.4% month-on-month). The household loan portfolio continued to grow at the same pace (+1.1% month-on-month),” the review said.
