The Coordination Council has adopted the resolution “On a Round Table to Overcome the Political Crisis and Strengthen the Independence of the Republic of Belarus.” The resolution was initiated by the “Latushka Coalition and For Freedom Movement” faction.
The resolution was supported by 60 Coordination Council delegates, while two voted against it. Nine delegates abstained, the Coordination Council’s press service reported.
The resolution recognizes the existence of a prolonged, deep and systemic domestic political crisis in Belarus that, among other things, affects the country’s international image and its ability to maintain balanced cooperation with foreign partners. It also states that Belarus’ state sovereignty and independence are the highest values.
In the adopted resolution, the Coordination Council decided to support the idea of holding a round table with the participation of democratic institutions — the Coordination Council, the United Transitional Cabinet, the Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, and representatives of the Belarusian authorities exercising de facto control over the country — to overcome the crisis and strengthen Belarus’ independence.
The document also states that possible peace negotiations to end the Russia-Ukraine war could create new conditions for shaping a long-term security architecture in Eastern Europe, while also opening a window of opportunity to strengthen Belarus’ sovereignty and international standing. The resolution calls on representatives of the Belarusian authorities exercising de facto control over the country to enter into communication to discuss the possibility of holding a round table.
