Charge Revealed in Case of Svietlahorsk Resident Detained After Returning to Belarus

The article under which Svietlahorsk resident Hleb Panasiuk was convicted earlier this year has become known. He was sentenced to five years in prison.

According to data from “Homielskaya Viasna,” he was convicted under Part 2 of Article 361-3 of the Criminal Code. The article establishes liability for participation on the territory of a foreign state in an armed formation or armed conflict, as well as for the recruitment and training of individuals for such participation.

Friends of Hleb claim that he was subscribed to a channel of the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment, but did not engage in recruitment or training of potential fighters.

34-year-old Hleb Panasiuk returned to his homeland on October 8, 2025, to visit his parents. On October 9, he last contacted friends in Poland — he called from the railway station in Brest and said he was boarding a train to Svietlahorsk. After that, contact with him was lost. His friends began searching for him. In December, it became known that Panasiuk was being held in Pre-trial Detention Center No. 3 in Homiel. Before that, he had been held in a Homiel temporary detention facility, where he was placed on administrative charges.
