Belenergo To Become Participant In Unified Electricity Market Of The Union State

The Council of Ministers has adopted a resolution on the implementation of the Agreement between Belarus and Russia on the formation of a unified electricity market of the Union State. Under the document, the main functions are assigned to Belenergo.

According to the government press service, the association will:

• act as the organization providing electricity transmission services across the territory of Belarus (network operator),
• act as the organization providing operational and dispatch control services for the country’s power system (system operator),
• participate in the unified electricity market of the Union State by carrying out the purchase and sale of electric energy.

It is noted that Belenergo will participate in the electricity market both before the creation of an internal wholesale electricity market in Belarus and after such a wholesale market is established.
