Belarusian Transport Ministry Uses AI to Monitor Toll Road Payments

Additional systems for monitoring payments on Belarus’s toll roads began operating on November 2, the Ministry of Transport and Communications said.

“The existing payment monitoring system has been supplemented with new software based on artificial intelligence technologies and video recording equipment. This makes it possible to automatically identify vehicles on toll road sections whose users have failed to make payment in accordance with the established procedure”, the ministry said.

The ministry expects the new system to improve driver compliance and eliminate cases of unpaid tolls.

The development was implemented jointly by the Transport Ministry’s unified operator of the intelligent transport system, BelDorsvyaz, the operator of the electronic toll collection system and the Transport Inspectorate of the Transport Ministry.
