A Belarusian citizen has been sentenced in Poland to one year and two months in prison in a cigarette smuggling case. The verdict was issued by the district court in Biała Podlaska, the Nadbużański Border Guard unit reported.
The Belarusian worked as a driver. When crossing the Belarusian-Polish border, cigarettes worth 4 million zlotys (more than $1 million) were found in his truck, concealed in bags of pellets. The driver did not admit guilt in the attempted smuggling.
The court sentenced him to one year and two months in prison and a fine of 160,000 zlotys (about $44,000). The truck was confiscated as an instrument of the crime. The verdict has entered into legal force.
