The Belarusian Football Federation has informed the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) about a drone attack on a bus carrying children in Russia’s Bryansk Region.
The federation states that the strike was carried out “by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
“The Belarusian Football Federation has already informed the presidents of UEFA and FIFA about the incident and has also initiated an investigation into the matter by the relevant authorities. At present, we are gathering all available information and keeping the situation under special supervision. We express our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased,” the statement said.
As previously reported, a bus carrying 44 passengers, including 28 children, came under a drone strike in Bryansk Region on June 17. The Russian Investigative Committee said the drone was Ukrainian.
The bus was carrying a children’s football team from Rechytsa Youth Sports School No. 2 to Gelendzhik for a holiday trip. A woman accompanying the team was killed in the strike. Seven people, including five children, were hospitalised with shrapnel injuries. One child remains in serious condition.
