Sales of new cars in Belarus reached 10,300 units in August. This was the best monthly result so far this year. According to the Belarusian Automobile Association (BAA), sales increased by 7% compared with July this year and by 71.6% compared with August last year.
The share of Belarusian-made cars increased by 6.4 percentage points in August to 68%.
“The BELGEE X50+ remains the best-selling model on the market for the second consecutive month. In August, nearly one in six cars purchased in Belarus was this model,” the BAA noted.
“Green” vehicles accounted for 3,900 units in August.
“Based on the results of the first eight months of 2026, we can say that demand for new cars remains high. Under these conditions, it is important to ensure that cars remain affordable for individuals with average incomes, including by maintaining effective lending programs.
Special attention should be paid to developing infrastructure for electric vehicles. The segment continues to grow, but for the full use of electric transport, especially on long-distance trips across the country, a broader and more predictable network of charging stations is needed.
At the same time, the electric vehicle market is gradually entering a new stage. Their production costs are increasingly approaching those of cars with conventional engines. In this regard, from 2027 it would be advisable to consider abolishing the VAT exemption for electric vehicles and harmonizing regulatory conditions with the Russian Federation.
This approach will create more balanced competitive conditions and will also encourage investment in production, localization of electric vehicles and their barrier-free sale on the Union State market,” Hennadz Sviderski, Director General of BelGee, said, commenting on the August results.
