Belarusian Athlete Wins Gold In Cross-Country Sprint At Paralympics

Raman Svirydzenka of Belarus won gold in the cross-country skiing sprint at the XIV Paralympic Games in Italy. In the final he recorded a time of 2:35.4, finishing 2.7 seconds ahead of his closest rival.

The 21-year-old Svirydzenka competed in the LW2–LW9 category, which includes standing athletes with limb impairments.

This year the International Paralympic Committee allowed athletes from Belarus and Russia to compete under the flags of their respective countries. Belarus is represented by four athletes at the Games.
