Strong Earthquake Hits Japan

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Japan. Its epicenter was located at a depth of 10 km in Kumamoto Prefecture on the island of Kyushu. A tsunami warning was issued for two areas.

All train services on the island of Kyushu were suspended. About 48,000 households were left without electricity. No incidents were reported at nuclear power plants.

There is no confirmed information on casualties yet. However, emergency services have received calls to rescue people trapped beneath collapsed structures, Kyodo reported.
