Belarus Sends 15 Tonnes of Medicines to Myanmar

At the end of this week, Belarus carried out its first major shipment of medicines to Myanmar. The delivery consists of products manufactured by Belmedpreparaty for cancer patients, as well as antiviral, antibacterial and other therapeutic groups.

According to the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Health, the first shipment included 15 tonnes of medicines worth more than 160,000 dollars. The ministry said the delivery fulfils agreements reached at a business forum held ahead of the visit to Myanmar by Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

“Belarus will expand medicine supplies to Myanmar. This is the clearest confirmation that, when both countries are interested and when the instructions of the Head of State are carried out, we can achieve practical results that bring benefits,” Health Minister Alyaksandr Khadzhaeu said.

At the end of November, the Ministries of Health of Belarus and Myanmar agreed on medicine supplies. Pharmaceutical documents were signed at a business forum held in Yangon, the former capital of Myanmar. Cooperation in supplying Belarusian pharmaceutical products to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar has been ongoing since 2018.

On 27–28 November, Alyaksandr Lukashenka paid an official visit to Myanmar. He stated that Belarus is ready not only to sell its products to Myanmar but also to establish joint ventures. Pharmaceuticals were named among the priority sectors.
