Belarus has confirmed its readiness to host Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith on an official visit at the invitation of Aliaksandr Lukashenka. Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou stated this today during a meeting with Lao Deputy Foreign Minister Maythong Thammavongsa.
Ryzhankou also renewed the invitation to his counterpart, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane, to visit Belarus on a return visit.
Ryzhankou and Thammavongsa noted their mutual interest in the further development of multifaceted cooperation between Belarus and Laos, paid particular attention to cooperation between the foreign ministries in the near future, as well as joint steps to implement agreements in the trade and economic sphere, the Foreign Ministry press service reports.
The Lao delegation led by Thammavongsa also took part in the fourth round of consultations on general political issues between the Belarusian and Lao foreign ministries.
“The parties discussed the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation, including the organisation of joint events. They reviewed issues of cooperation in the political, trade-economic and humanitarian spheres, improvement of the legal framework, and interaction within international organisations. They exchanged views on certain issues of the regional and global agenda,” the Foreign Ministry reports.
