Belarus Introduces Licensing for Battery Imports

The Belarusian government has introduced temporary licensing for battery imports. The relevant resolution was signed by Prime Minister Alyaksandr Turchyn, the government press service reported.

The licensing regime will remain in effect for six months. It applies to the following categories of goods:

  • 8507 10 200 2 – electric lead-acid batteries used for starting piston engines, operating with liquid electrolyte, weighing more than 5 kg, for industrial assembly,
  • 8507 10 200 3 – other electric lead-acid batteries operating with liquid electrolyte and weighing more than 5 kg.

The licensing requirement for battery imports will not apply to goods originating from member states of the Eurasian Economic Union, provided that their origin is confirmed by an ST-1 certificate of origin or another form of certificate of origin, or if they are included in the Eurasian register of industrial goods from EAEU member states.

The measure was introduced “to support domestic manufacturers.” The government believes it will not lead to higher prices for end consumers.
