Belarus is introducing price regulation for goods produced by retail chains. The rules will cover processed meat, chicken and fish, lightly salted fish and bakery products, Deputy Minister of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Aleh Dzikun said.
“These products will now also be regulated,” he said, according to BelTA.
According to him, the decision was made in response to complaints from members of the public who said that food-service products made at retail outlets were priced differently from those sold in manufacturers’ branded stores.
A markup cap has been chosen as the regulatory mechanism. When selling goods of their own production, retail chains will be required to limit the food-service markup to 10%.
At the same time, the overall list of goods subject to price regulation is being reduced. It currently contains 199 items, but only 76 will remain on the list in the future.
“The non-food category has been almost completely excluded. Only socially essential goods remain among non-food products,” the deputy minister said.
The resolution adjusting the price regulation system was signed on July 10. It will take effect 10 days after publication.
