Average Public Sector Salary Falls by 167.7 Roubles in January

The average nominal accrued salary of public sector employees in January amounted to 2,172.6 roubles before taxes. It decreased by 7.2 percent compared with December, or by 167.7 roubles, but remained higher than in November. From January 1, the base rate to which public sector wages are tied was increased nationwide.

In real terms, the average salary in the public sector grew by 9.8 percent in January. These data were published by Belstat.

In January, the ratio of wages in public sector organisations to the nationwide average stood at 78.8 percent.

Average January salaries in the public sector were as follows:
in public administration — 3,109.1 roubles (down 828.9 roubles month on month),
teachers — 2,695.4 roubles (up 45.4 roubles),
preschool educators — 1,846.3 roubles (down 37.9 roubles),
academic teaching staff — 3,232.8 roubles (down 403.3 roubles),
doctors — 4,210.3 roubles (down 261.8 roubles),
mid-level medical staff — 2,298 roubles (down 145.8 roubles).
