Artist Aksana Shaliapina Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

Artist Aksana Shaliapina has been sentenced to three years in a penal colony for assisting political prisoners. She had been helping several dozen political detainees while they were in custody, according to dissidentby.

Aksana Shaliapina was detained in June 2025 and held in a pre-trial detention centre until the court hearing. The sentence was issued on 8 December. She has been recognised as a political prisoner.

Aksana Shaliapina graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and has been working with oil painting since 2009. Her works are held in private collections in the United States, Germany, Kazakhstan, Russia, Georgia, Belarus, Luxembourg, Finland and Italy, as well as in the Larus gallery (United States).
