Deputy Head of the United Transition Cabinet and head of the National Anti-Crisis Management, Pavel Latushka, held a meeting with Lithuania’s Deputy Foreign Minister Audra Plepyte. The spokesperson of the Coordination Council, Artem Bruhan, also took part, the OPC press service reported.
“We presented our vision of the further strategy for applying sanctions pressure on the Lukashenka regime, including the need to introduce additional legal grounds within the EU framework related to the regime’s hybrid aggression against neighbouring states,” Latushka said following the meeting.
He informed the Lithuanian side in detail about the ongoing work carried out by the NAU on criminal prosecution of regime representatives within the International Criminal Court, supporting the consideration of Lithuania’s submission to the ICC regarding crimes against humanity committed by representatives of the Lukashenka regime.
He separately explained the work on collecting evidence for a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine, and expressed support for Lithuania’s efforts in filing a case at the International Court of Justice against Belarus for organising and encouraging the illegal transfer of migrants across the shared border.
The sides also discussed support for the NAU’s legal initiative concerning the possible use of OSCE instruments.
When discussing the reopening of Belarus–Lithuania border crossing points, Pavel Latushka stressed that restoring full border operations is important for preserving the ability of Belarusians to travel to EU countries and maintain people-to-people contacts with European states. He noted that neither Lukashenka nor members of his entourage included in EU sanctions lists would be able to benefit from this right.
The meeting also reaffirmed the importance of continuing pressure on the Lukashenka regime over its ongoing internal repression in Belarus.
