Russia has violated the ceasefire declared by Ukraine from midnight on May 6. Ukraine will determine its further actions after receiving reports from the military and intelligence, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
“As of today, we state that the Russian side has violated the ceasefire. Based on the evening reports from our military and intelligence, we will decide on our further actions”, he said.
Zelenskyy said that after strikes on Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia and other cities the previous day, Russia continued combat operations and shelling on May 6. Overnight and into the morning of May 6, 1,820 violations of the ceasefire were recorded.
“Russia’s choice is an obvious rejection of silence and of preserving lives. Assault operations continue along all key sections of the front, and since the beginning of this day alone, the Russian army has already carried out nearly 30 assault actions. More than 20 air strikes using over 70 aerial bombs were recorded during this night and morning.
During the night, the Russian army also carried out drone strikes of various types. In particular, our Defence Forces of Ukraine neutralised nearly 90 attack drones. There were also missile strikes.
Overall, as of 10 a.m., the Russian army has committed 1,820 violations of the ceasefire — shelling, attempted assaults, air strikes and the use of drones”, the Ukrainian president said.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine’s diplomatic proposals have been presented to the Russian side.
“The only thing needed is Russia’s readiness to move towards real peace”, he said.
It should be recalled that Russia’s Defence Ministry unilaterally announced a ceasefire for May 8–9 and warned of a strike on Kyiv if Victory Day celebrations on May 9 were disrupted. Ukraine declared a ceasefire from May 6 and warned it would act in a reciprocal manner.
