Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed a new Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine — Ihor Skybiuk. The position had previously been held by Andrii Hnatov.
“Together with Mykhailo Drapatyi and Yevhenii Khmara, we decided that Major General Ihor Skybiuk, a highly experienced military officer who defended Ukraine side by side with the new Commander-in-Chief, will become the new Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is important that all components of our army continue to operate in the closest possible coordination.”, Zelenskyy said on July 22.
According to Zelenskyy, it was also decided in what capacity Andrii Hnatov and former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi would continue their work.
The relevant decrees will be published today.
On July 21, Zelenskyy announced the appointment of a new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The post was given to Mykhailo Drapatyi. Ukraine’s defence minister was replaced a week earlier. Yevhenii Khmara took over the ministry from Mykhailo Fedorov.
