We Urge The United States Not To Pressure Lithuania Over Sanctions – Tsikhanouskaya

Belarusian democratic forces are urging the United States not to pressure Lithuania over sanctions against Minsk. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya said this at the Lithuanian Seimas, BNS reported.

“We are constantly communicating with our American partners and urging them not to put pressure on EU countries, above all Lithuania, to lift European sanctions.

We all understand that if, for example, sanctions on potash fertilisers are lifted, this will only strengthen the regime and provide it with more funds for repression and the war in Ukraine”, the agency quoted her as saying.

As BNS writes, Tsikhanouskaya also supports European partners remaining consistent in their approach to Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

“President Trump has enough influence to help Belarusians secure the release of all political prisoners. However, we ask Europeans to keep their strongest cards for more important steps, because releasing political prisoners is our priority, but our task is to free the whole country”, she added.

It should be recalled that last week Lithuanian television aired an interview with US presidential envoy John Coale, who said he hoped for a Lithuanian-Belarusian meeting at deputy minister level and also spoke in favour of potash fertiliser transit through Lithuania.
