Water Supply Disruption Continues for Second Day in Rahachou

Problems with tap water have continued for a second day in Rahachou. After painting work at the water intake facility, the water developed a paint-like smell. Local authorities have arranged water deliveries by tanker and are advising residents to use bottled water for drinking.

“In connection with scheduled painting work on structural elements at the Rahachou water intake facility that do not come into contact with water, the presence of a specific odour in the water supplied to the city has been detected. Test results showed a slight превышение in the ‘odour’ indicator. To monitor water quality, the hygiene and epidemiology centre, together with the water utility, has organised regular sampling”, the Rahachou district executive committee said.

City authorities said they had carried out work to “neutralise the specific odour” at the water intake facility.

“At present, the water quality at the outlet from the intake facility complies with hygiene standards”, the executive committee said.

Despite the assurances that the water meets standards, the authorities advise using bottled water for drinking and cooking and have arranged water deliveries by tanker.

An internal investigation has been launched to determine the causes and circumstances of the incident.
