A 23-year-old man in the Vitsyebsk Region has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for attempting to kill two people, unlawful deprivation of liberty and threatening to use violence against a police officer.
The case concerns a crime committed on Aug. 20, 2025. According to the case materials, the man entered his former girlfriend’s apartment through a first-floor window. He held the apartment’s occupant and her 17-year-old daughter there for several hours, threatening them with a knife and using physical violence. He pulled the victims by their hair, struck them and attempted to force the minor to take a psychotropic substance. He consumed some of the substance himself.
The man then pushed the 17-year-old girl out of the window. She tried to flee, but the attacker caught up with her outside and, in front of witnesses, stabbed her at least twice in the abdomen.
It was previously reported that on the morning of Aug. 20, 2025, a woman called the police and said that an acquaintance was killing her 17-year-old daughter. Officers from the Pershamaiski District Department of Internal Affairs in Vitsyebsk arrived at the scene and saw a man in the courtyard stabbing the girl. Attempting to escape, he ran to an educational institution, where he smashed window panes, and during his arrest he swung a knife at police officers. One of the officers shot the man in the legs.
The victim was hospitalized in the intensive care unit. The suspect was also taken to hospital. He was 22 at the time of his arrest and had previously been convicted of drug trafficking offenses.
The court found the man guilty and sentenced him to 14 years in a maximum-security penal colony without a fine. The verdict of the Vitsyebsk Regional Court was upheld by the Supreme Court and has entered into force, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.
