The value of Belarusian potash supplies to China rose sharply in November, according to Chinese customs statistics. Overall, the dynamics of China’s imports of potash fertilisers in both physical and value terms indicate rising supply prices.
In November, China’s imports of potassium chloride in physical terms increased by 25% year on year to 1.27 million tonnes, while in value terms they rose by 63% to $460 million.
The value of Belarusian potash imports increased 2.6-fold in November to $102.7 million compared with the same month last year. Supplies from Russia rose by only 29% to $148.1 million, while imports from Canada increased 2.1 times to $102.2 million.
It is worth noting that in November Chinese importers redistributed their purchases. Whereas in October the value of imports from Russia was significantly higher than those from Belarus and Canada, this gap narrowed in November. Imports from Belarus to China in November increased by 22.6% compared with October this year, imports from Canada rose 2.4 times, while imports from Russia fell by 26.4%.
High volumes of purchases from Laos have also been maintained. In November, China imported potash fertilisers worth $72.8 million from that country.
Over the first 11 months of the year, China’s imports of potassium chloride in physical terms decreased by 0.6% to 11.15 million tonnes, while in value terms they increased by 3.1% to $3.51 billion.
Imports of Belarusian potash to China in January–November remain below last year’s level. They declined by 17.9% to $628.2 million. Imports from Russia increased by 18.2% to $1.355 billion, while Canadian imports fell by 7.9% to $600 million. Over the first 11 months, Laos retained third place among potash suppliers to China, with fertiliser imports from the country amounting to $610 million, or 14.3% more than a year earlier.
Overall, imports of Belarusian goods into China in January–November this year totalled $1.455 billion.
