On June 22, officials from Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) in the Smolensk region seized a shipment of beef being transported from Belarus.
During an inspection of the vehicle, officials found that 1 tonne of beef was being transported without veterinary or shipping documents, without official inspection stamps and in violation of sanitary regulations. The driver was unable to identify the sender or the intended recipient of the cargo.
Samples of the meat have been sent to a laboratory for testing. A decision on the shipment’s fate will be made after the examination is completed, Rosselkhoznadzor reports.
