Ukrainian Foreign Minister Describes Meeting With Tsikhanouskaya in Blog Post

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha shared details of his meeting with a Belarusian delegation headed by Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya in a blog post. He referred to her as the leader of the Belarusian democratic forces.

We publish the post in full:

“Today in Kyiv, I welcomed the leader of Belarusian democratic forces @Tsihanouskaya.

Ukraine clearly distinguishes between the Lukashenko regime, which dragged Belarus into Russia’s war, and the Belarusian people who deserve freedom.

We are deeply grateful to the Belarusian volunteers, with over 90 having laid down their lives fighting alongside Ukrainians against Russian imperialism.

We focused heavily on regional security and countering threats posed by the Lukashenko regime to Ukraine, Poland, and the Baltic states.

To ensure effective cooperation, Ukraine has appointed Yaroslav Chornohor as @MFA_Ukraine Ambassador-at-Large for relations with Belarusian democratic forces.

Looking ahead, we envision a free, democratic Belarus joining the Lublin Triangle alongside Ukraine, Poland, and Lithuania.

There will be no impunity: the Lukashenko regime bears full co-responsibility for the aggression against Ukraine. We discussed joint efforts to gather evidence for the Special Tribunal in The Hague, as well as holding the regime accountable for crimes against Ukrainian children.

Furthermore, I received a new package of sanction proposals from our Belarusian guests, which I intend to bring forward at the EU level.

Our nations are also stepping up cooperation in humanitarian and informational spheres, including joint resistance against Russification and supporting the Belarusian language.

As a poignant reminder of our deep-rooted ties, we presented our guests with archival diplomatic documents from the Ukrainian and Belarusian People’s Republics. These records prove that our states shared close official and human bonds before the Soviet Union.”
