Ukraine Strikes Kapustin Yar With “Flamingo”

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports damage to the Kapustin Yar test range in Russia’s Astrakhan Region. The strikes were carried out throughout January, including with the use of Ukrainian-made Flamingo missiles.

“During January 2026, the Defense Forces of Ukraine carried out a series of successful strikes on a complex of hangar-type buildings where pre-launch preparation of medium-range intercontinental ballistic missiles is conducted at the Kapustin Yar test range in Russia’s Astrakhan Region. The strikes were delivered using long-range strike systems of Ukrainian production, in particular the FP-5 Flamingo,” the General Staff said.

Several buildings at the test range were damaged, with one hangar sustaining significant damage. Part of the personnel was evacuated from the site.

Ukraine began producing the Flamingo in 2025. It is a cruise missile with a flight range of up to 3,000 kilometers.
