A 43-year-old Polish citizen wanted in the European Union has been detained at the Belarusian-Lithuanian border, the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service reported.
On the evening of Aug. 4, the Polish national arrived at the Medininkai border crossing in a Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 with Polish registration plates. During the inspection, Lithuanian border guards established that the man had been wanted under a European arrest warrant since October 2024 for evading the serving of a prison sentence.
In addition, the man’s vehicle was wanted as evidence in a criminal case. The car is believed to have been stolen or unlawfully misappropriated. The vehicle’s registration certificate was also being sought as evidence in criminal proceedings.
The driver said he had not intended to enter Lithuania. According to him, he had driven to the border to complete the temporary vehicle import procedure in Belarus and planned to turn around between the border checkpoints. However, that proved impossible, forcing him to enter Lithuanian territory.
The Polish citizen was placed in pretrial detention. A pretrial investigation has been launched.
