Yauhen Simanenkau, a Belarusian from Liozna who had been captured in Ukraine, was included in a prisoner exchange and returned to the Russian side today. His name appeared on the exchange list published by the Telegram channel “Nash Vykhad,” as noted by the Telegram channel “Viciebsk, Ya Hulyayu.”
Simanenkau Yauhen Fyodoravich, born on July 1, 1978, is listed under number 144. His citizenship is not specified.
The details fully match those of a resident of Liozna who disappeared after meeting Armenians from Smolensk in February 2026. His story was previously reported by Nasha Niva. Yauhen’s partner, Aksana Antsipenka, said that two Armenians had come from Smolensk to visit an acquaintance in Liozna and invited Simanenkau for drinks.
“He went out — and never came back! They forcibly took him away and sold him to a military unit as an assault trooper,” Aksana said.
According to the woman, Simanenkau later called and said he had signed a contract with the Russian Defense Ministry in Smolensk under threat of execution. In March, he was assigned to military unit 31985 and received the call sign “Simon.” In early April, he went on a combat mission and stopped communicating.
According to Belpol, Simanenkau worked in unskilled labor jobs, including as a logger, handyman, and construction worker, and regularly traveled to Russia for shift work. In 2004, he beat his drinking companion to death.
