Ukraine Launches Drone Attack on St. Petersburg and Several Russian Regions

During the night of June 5–6, Ukraine launched a large-scale drone attack targeting St. Petersburg, the Leningrad Region and several other Russian regions.

St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov reported the attack on the morning of June 6, urging residents to remain at home and warning of possible disruptions to mobile internet services.

Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko said that 144 drones had been destroyed over the region. Debris fell in the Luzhsky, Volosovsky and Lomonosovsky districts. In the Lomonosovsky district, a fire broke out at a Russian Defence Ministry facility, and some residents were evacuated.

According to OSINT analysis by Astra, the Kronstadt Naval Cadet Military Corps in Kronstadt was reportedly among the targets, with black smoke observed above the building. The outlet also reported that the Marine Thermal Engineering Research Institute in St. Petersburg and an oil depot in Petergof may also have been targeted.

In Ust-Labinsk in Russia’s Krasnodar Territory, a drone attack sparked a fire at the Poltavskaya oil depot. The fire covered an area of approximately 5,000 square metres, and no casualties were reported.

“As a result of a UAV attack on the premises of Poltavskaya Oil Depot JSC in the city of Ust-Labinsk, a fire broke out. According to preliminary information, there are no casualties. The fire covers an area of about 5,000 square metres,” the Unified Duty Dispatch Service of the Ust-Labinsky District said.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that nine drones heading toward Moscow had been destroyed.

In the Tula Region, 29 drones were shot down. Farm buildings and the glazing of a residential building in Uzlovaya were damaged, Governor Dmitry Milyaev said.

The Russian Defence Ministry said that 376 Ukrainian drones had been destroyed over 17 regions, as well as over the waters of the Azov and Black seas.
