Two Servicemen Killed After Vehicle Overturns on the Asipovichy–Baranavichy Road

The Defence Ministry has reported a road accident in which two servicemen were killed. The incident involved a vehicle overturning.

“Contract serviceman Junior Sergeant A.V. Shabunevich and conscript Private K.A. Kiba were killed. Those injured in the accident are currently receiving the necessary medical assistance,” the ministry said.

The investigation is being conducted jointly with the Investigative Committee and the Interior Ministry. The circumstances of the accident have not been specified.

“The Defence Ministry extends its condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased servicemen. Officials are in contact with the relatives. Comprehensive assistance will be provided to the families of the victims,” the ministry added.

The Investigative Committee said the accident occurred on Friday morning at the 12th kilometre of the Asipovichy–Baranavichy road and involved a MAZ cargo-passenger vehicle.

“According to preliminary information, while driving on the main road, the driver lost control of the vehicle while turning. The vehicle then overturned into a roadside ditch due to inertia.

Two people were killed. Another 14 injured people were hospitalised with injuries of varying severity,” the Investigative Committee said.

A criminal case has been opened under Part 3 of Article 464 of the Criminal Code (“Violation of the rules for operating or driving a transport vehicle resulting in the negligent deaths of two people”).
