Turchyn Speaks About Combating Imports And Price Regulation

The Belarusian government will combat low-quality imports and continue to regulate prices. Prime Minister Aliaksandr Turchyn said this at a meeting with entrepreneurs on Wednesday.

“The government will take all measures to stimulate domestic producers, rather than restrict imports. But the fight against low-quality imports will only become stricter, and I am saying this openly. We must ensure fair and equitable competition in our market and protect our consumers from low-quality imports. The government will take the toughest measures in this area,” he said, BelTA reports.

Price regulation was also discussed during the meeting. The government recently significantly reduced the list of regulated items. However, prices continue to be monitored, and the list may be expanded if necessary. Turchyn urged businesses to prevent this from happening.

“We are counting on the responsibility of businesses. Let us act fairly. We need to balance the desire to make a profit with a reasonable approach to pricing. We would very much prefer not to return any items to the list,” he said.
