Belarusian police will search schoolchildren under new rules starting Sept. 1. The main change will be the ability to search students’ personal belongings in the presence of a teacher.
As BelTA reported, Aliaksandr Shepeleu, head of the Department of Security of the Belarusian Interior Ministry, said that previously the search of minors required the presence of their legal representatives. Under the new rules, set out in Resolution No. 307 of the Belarusian Council of Ministers dated June 19, 2026, a search may be conducted in the presence of a teacher.
“Our officers and security guards have the right to search students’ personal belongings if there is suspicion that a child is attempting to bring prohibited items into the school. This allows us to prevent potential emergencies. Items prohibited from being brought into schools are those that could be used to harm other people or educational institutions,” Shepeleu explained.
According to him, the updated search procedure does not mean that all schoolchildren will be searched.
“We know very well which students require particular attention, and we receive this information from teachers and officers of the juvenile affairs inspectorate,” he said.
