Turchyn Moves to Address Services Exports

Belarusian Prime Minister Aliaksandr Turchyn held a meeting on services exports today. The meeting is reviewing the results of the first half of the year.

“In May, when we reviewed the export of our goods, we agreed that after the first half of the year we would review the situation with services exports,” Turchyn said.

According to him, the export results in the first half of the year are encouraging.

“But we all understand the difficulties involved in exporting our goods to traditional markets, so, of course, services exports will be such an important reserve for balanced growth of our economy in the medium term.

“Therefore, the goal of today’s meeting is to critically analyze not only the situation with services exports, but the state of the services sector in our country as a whole,” he added.

In January-May, services exports rose by 25.3% to $5.4 billion, while imports increased by only 18.2% to $3.43 billion. The services trade surplus amounted to $1.97 billion, up 40.1% from last year.
