Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, during an official visit to the Czech Republic, personally presented an award to Belarusian researcher, translator and publisher Siarhei Shupa (Siarhiej Šupa). The Belarusian leader visited him in hospital, where he is undergoing rehabilitation following a scheduled operation.
Shupa was awarded the Francysk Skaryna Medal, a distinction presented to Belarusian and foreign citizens for outstanding achievements in their professional activities and for a significant personal contribution to the development and strengthening of the Belarusian people’s spiritual and intellectual potential.
Also this week in Warsaw, Tsikhanouskaya presented the Medal for Productive Work for the Benefit of Belarus to German historian Felix Ackermann. The researcher, who speaks Belarusian, has worked on Belarus-related topics for many years, taught at EHU, and published a number of books about Belarus in Belarusian and German. During the meeting, the parties also discussed support for Belarusian academic projects in Germany and opportunities to expand such support.
