Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held a meeting in Warsaw with organisations providing assistance to Belarusian political prisoners. Participants discussed coordination of support, funding and preparations for a possible mass release of prisoners.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Association of Women Political Prisoners, the “Prytyulay Miane” foundation, the volunteer service of the Viasna Human Rights Centre, Politzek.me, the National Anti-Crisis Management, the Free Belarus Center, the Belarusian Solidarity Center, the Partyzanka initiative, “Volnyya,” the United Transitional Cabinet, and the “A Country to Live In” foundation.
The discussion focused on the state of funding for emergency and long-term assistance, issues related to departure and legalisation, the threat of renewed persecution, available housing resources, as well as the organisation of medical and psychological rehabilitation for those released.
Tsikhanouskaya thanked the organisations for their work and solidarity, noting that the release and rehabilitation of political prisoners remain a priority for her Office.
“I am grateful to every organisation and every volunteer for the work you do every day. The release and rehabilitation of political prisoners are our unconditional priority. Our task is to be prepared not reactively, but systematically for a mass release of political prisoners. We need coordination, trust and joint planning to ensure that support is timely and effective. Therefore, today’s meeting is an important step toward more coordinated cooperation in support of political prisoners and their families,” the democratic forces’ leader said.
