Traffic Police Officer Hit by Car in Minsk Region Dies

The Interior Ministry reported the death of senior traffic police inspector Petr Masalbasau of the special platoon of the Traffic Police Department under the Minsk Regional Executive Committee’s Internal Affairs Directorate, who was hit by a car in Minsk Region. The 40-year-old police major died in hospital from injuries sustained in the line of duty.

The farewell ceremony took place at the St Elisabeth Convent in Minsk. Those attending included Interior Minister Ivan Kubrakou, his deputies, heads of the Minsk City Police Department and regional internal affairs directorates, as well as leadership, personnel and veterans of the State Traffic Inspectorate.

Petr Masalbasau was born on 1 January 1986 in the village of Tsikhinichi, Rahachou district, Homiel region. He devoted most of his life to service in the traffic police, serving on the roads of Homiel and Minsk regions. He is survived by two underage sons. The Interior Ministry said it would provide the family with the necessary assistance.

As previously reported, on 14 May it was reported that a 74-year-old Opel driver struck the inspector, who was standing near a service vehicle with emergency lights activated on the P58 road near the village of Yakubavichy in Minsk Region.
