There Will Come A Moment When We Raise It Above Our Cities – Tsikhanouskaya On The White-Red-White Flag

A ceremony to raise the Belarusian white-red-white flag took place today outside the Lithuanian Seimas building. It was part of events marking the 108th anniversary of the Belarusian People’s Republic.

“Today near the Lithuanian Seimas we are raising the white-red-white flag — a symbol of our freedom and resilience.

This flag reminds us that there is another Belarus, one that is not Soviet and not Russian. That Belarusians are not the same as the regime. It unites Belarusians: both those in exile and those at home.

Last week it flew in hundreds of cities around the world where Belarusians live.

In Belarus today, such a thing is impossible to imagine. People are punished with years in prison for the flag, but I know that many secretly keep it at home. And there will come a moment when we raise it above our cities, and it returns to our streets”, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya said at the ceremony.

According to her office, the ceremony was also attended by Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas Juozas Olekas, Deputy Marshal of the Polish Senate Michał Kamiński, members of the Seimas and representatives of the Belarusian diaspora.

The ceremony began with a minute of silence in memory of those who gave their lives for a free Belarus.

After the ceremony, a Belarusian-Lithuanian conference began in the Seimas.
