The White House Confused Belgium With Belarus and Added It to the List of Participants in the Peace Council

The White House published a list of countries participating in the Peace Council established by U.S. President Donald Trump. Belgium was initially included in the list, but the country’s foreign minister, Maxim Prevot, later explained that this was a mistake. According to a source in the Belgian government, the Americans confused Belgium with Belarus, Het Laatste Nieuws reported.

The list, published on Thursday, included countries participating in Trump’s new initiative, the signing of which took place in Davos on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum. The list named Bahrain, Morocco, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Mongolia, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and … Belgium.

Belgium’s foreign minister, Maxim Prevot, clarified the situation on X.

“Belgium has NOT signed the Charter of the Board of Peace. This announcement is incorrect. We wish for a common and coordinated European response. As many European countries, we have reservations to the proposal.”

According to sources in the government, the error occurred due to confusion over the country’s name: the White House mixed up Belgium with Belarus, the newspaper reported.
